DAYTONA PARTY MEETING REPORT

The February 14, 2010, Daytona Party Fan Club meeting went off without a hitch, unlike the Daytona Race which had hitches and glitches and stoppages galore.

The Slate of Officers was elected by acclimation so the new officers are the same as the prior officers, (notice I didn’t say OLD officers).  Congratulations to VP, Dave Beimfohr—Treasurer, Sandi Pezold—Sgt. At Arms, Ed Murphy—and Board Members, Don Figler and Mark Vallow.  We are looking forward to the Club moving another step forward in 2010.

We added three new members to the club roster at the meeting—Dave Jones, and Mark and Sandy Unterlechner. Welcome!

David Jones

We had some guest speakers:  Dave Jones, from the SCCA who told us about the new Tech-o-rama they will be holding in March at Jim Lynch Hummer.

We also heard from  Rick and Debbie Toth, from Fenton, MO., who
The Toths
related their story of getting married at the Brickyard 400 in Indianapolis.  It was quite a tale from the beginning, by getting the wedding date and the race date mixed up, to being turned down by the track management for permission to marry there, to going to the race anyway and the problems encountered and the wild coincidences that happened to finally get the job done. Their story and photos were written up in Stock Car Racing magazine and was amazing. Quite a great pair of race fans.

Tom vonHatten gave us details on the upcoming (Feb. 26-27 weekend) 100 Acre Wood Rally and an invitation to come and enjoy a race that is something different for most of us. A few of the members who have attended the last couple of years are quite enthusiastic about going back again, especially if the weather holds as is predicted (in the 50s).

The 50/50 was won by Duane Marburger.

Dan Eby has volunteered to chair the Members Only Pre-Race cookout.  We will have one again at Belleville prior to the midget races.  We are also wanting to plan another one for this summer and will let you know about dates for both as soon as they are settled.

We need someone to organize our Fan Club Nights this summer. At this point we have 2 dates set:  June 4, at BelleClair for the Allied races and Aug. 11 at BelleClair for the Arnie Knepper Memorial Midget Races.  Again, as soon as the other dates are set we will let everyone know.
The winner of the “Can You Win the Daytona 500 Game” was Steve Kempf. While most people were choosing the ‘big guns’ Steve took a long shot by choosing Jamie McMurray.  His long shot was the best shot. Unfortunately, due to the race delays and the weather Steve and the trophy left before the race was over so Steve will be awarded his trophy at the March Open Wheel Night.

Next and last meeting for the spring will be Open Wheel Night on Saturday night, March 6, at Crehan’s Pub in Belleville starting at 7:00 p.m.  in their banquet room. If you want to get a bite to eat before the meeting just come a little early. The room will have waitress service for food and drinks.
